lyrics

My car's been telling me to get a job,
And stop running it's poor tires into the road,
I've been living in the backseat with a friend of mine,
Shifting bodies to even out the load,

And we've been moving so long that it seems we have forgotten,
What it feels to just be standing still,
Forgotten leaving home or the evenings spent alone,
Hung upon the telephone or windowsill,

And there's a sparkle in your eye and I think I know just what it means,
When this lonely coast can't keep another night,
So we pull up to the yard on Windsor Blvd.,
First driveway, second building on the right

I just might be in love with the lady at the counter,
But it'll take a couple days to figure why,
She's got diamonds in her hair that I wish weren't there,
Constellations in on her head and in my eyes,

And she can't find our room, but smiles half a smile,
And asks us if we'd care to stop and pray,
And there's a semi-sacred shuffling coming down from overhead,
As the mortal in me begs me not stay,

Then wires wrap swift around me, cutting off my chance to choose,
For time has shown me truth and truth alone,
And by the time the song is done the man I thought I knew is gone,
And I sleep under sheets and shards of bone

Well, I'm trying to grab a new perspective,
But the window sells an awful lonely view,
And the noises coming through the walls are fatal,
The innocent in me tells me they're not true,

And I would be a fool to say I'm sorry
For things I never knew
And we would both be fools to say we're sorry
For things we'd never do

And I know I can't afford to stay another night,
'Cause my money's running lower than the tide,
And I packled up my belongings 'round a week ago,
But haven't had the guts to bust outside,

There's an older man decaying on the courtyard,
Says he was happier back in his former years,
When the land, it had no end, and time slid out and back again,
And the mystery of the world was close to clear,

Now he's just one step closer to the ocean,
Now he's just another mote above,
And he watches earth recede, and he whispers as he leaves,
You remember nothing more than those you've loved.
